SolarByTheWatt.com – Analysis and research on the solar industry with focus on economic efficiency and specifically dollar per watt of solar components, panels, inverters, services and other.
The editors of SolarByTheWatt.com believe that solar power, photovoltaic in particular, but without a question together with other renewable energy technologies, will be a main player in completely replacing the poisonous ways we generate useful energy now. Coal and oil is not only depleting but the way we use them to produce energy in a useful form (electricity, mechanical motion, heat) is poisonous to the humans and the rest of life on the planet and is destructing to the rest of the environment (yes to the non live things like, mountains, rock, rivers, valleys etc.
We are are convinced that even at the current prices of solar and the other renewable sources of power there are many situations in which there use makes sense. The exploding market in this sector is an indicator for that. But ultimately, lower price per installed watt (watt peak, nominal power, peak power – whatever we call it) is going to be the critical factor in turning the current development in the next gold rush.
This is why we decided to study, analyze and comment the solar industry and the other renewables in respect of changing (hopefully faster and faster falling) prices per watt – of the components, like panels and inverters but also of the whole installed systems.
Falling prices in the components (like solar photovoltaic panels, modules) are driven by better and better technologies for manufacturing, increasing scale of the projects on average, increasing market as a whole, competition. Falling prices in installation service comes from more knowledge, more experience in installing in different environments (in our studies we talk to people who have been in the industry 20 years!) and competition again.
We are convinced that not only manufacturing technology and economy of scale will drive prices down put also the fact that the technology will become more available to be studied in schools, more specialists will be trained to work in the sector.
